The second CAS-E podcast was produced on October 7, 2024. Under the moderation of Dr. Bernd-Christian Otto (bernd-christian.otto@fau.de), Prof. Judith Noble (Arts University Plymouth), Prof. Marco Pasi (Center for the History of Hermetic Philosophy and Related Currents, Amsterdam) and Andrea Centore (Co-founder of the Research Network for the Study of Esoteric Practices) discussed various topics related to “The Resilience of Magic in Modernity”: the problem of defining magic, various examples of modern magical practices, magic in relation to modern secularization, magic’s relationship with art and other aspects of modern culture, and magic’s striking resilience in modernity. Three scholars of religion (Pasi, Otto, Centore) and a – very successful – artist, film-maker and practitioner-scholar (Noble) have engaged in a conversation that lies at the heart of CAS-E’s research.
