Sergio González Varela is an Assistant professor at the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of the University of Warsaw. He holds a Ph.D. from University of London (awarded in 2009). Before joining the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, he was Associate Professor at Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, Mexico. He has done ethnographic fieldwork in Brazil, Mexico, and the U.K. He has studied capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian ritual-martial art dance, for more than twenty years and is a leading expert in the field.
